Forget the scathing put-downs from the likes of the X-factor and Strictly Come Dancing, Colne Festival is not like that.
We are one of the oldest surviving Arts festivals in the country, and we’ve always had a reputation for our warm welcome, being, as we are, in a beautiful area of Lancashire known for its music, drama and dance.
Our festival has three sections: Music, Dance, and Speech & Drama, and takes place both in summer and winter. During the summer, usually in early June, at least two days are dedicated to dance. The last Saturday of November features our speech and drama section and the music classes for under-18s.The first Saturday of December is devoted to adult music.
Everyone who comes along is given a written, personal adjudication from a professional specialist who also gives useful tips and general advice when summing up the class.
All the comments are constructive – so our audiences have no cause to boo!
We are very fortunate to have the support of Pendle Borough Council and the use of its beautiful hall in Albert Road, Colne Muni, as our main venue. Our speech and drama classes take place at St John’s Methodist Church, just across the road, where delicious home-made lunches are also available on the day.
The festival is open to individuals, groups, ensembles and choirs. There are medals for children, trophies and monetary prizes. Please get in touch if you have any queries or would like to know more.
The phone numbers are on the People page.
